General Manager Wei Zhonghe Appointed Visiting Professor at Xiamen University of Technology

On March 29, 2008, General Manager Wei Zhonghe was appointed as a visiting professor of the Xiamen University of Technology at the First Conference on Science and Technology Work and Founding Conference of the Science Association. Thirty-one enterprise executives and technical elites were appointed as visiting professors at the event. Most of those appointed hold master's degrees or doctoral degrees, and are regarded as experts or specialists in their respective disciplines and technical fields. They will bring their specialist knowledge into play in the various departments and divisions of the university. For instance, Senior Vice President Bernd Muehe (Germany) of ABB China Limited, one of the World’s Top 500 Enterprises, was invited to act as a visiting professor for the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering; Chief Editor of the Xiamen Daily Li Quandian was invited to act as a visiting professor for the Department of Culture Communication; Manager Zhang Shiwen of Suntar Membrane Technology (Xiamen) Co., Ltd., became a visiting professor for the Department of Environmental Engineering and General Manager Lin Jie of the Xiamen International Airport Group Co., Ltd., became a visiting professor for the Department of Management Science.

This is the first time that the university has invited executives and technical elites from renowned enterprises and institutes to act as visiting professors. This goes to demonstrate the university’s commitment to becoming a regionally based and practically oriented institution. Chairman of the Xiamen Science and Technology Association and President of the Xiamen University of Technology Huang Hongwu said that the university approached the selection of these visiting professors seriously, stringently and honestly.

At the forum that followed the meeting, Wei Zhonghe said that Xiamen Master Translation Service Co., Ltd. will give practically oriented lectures on technical translation and the translation market to students of the Department of Foreign Languages, offer internship opportunities to students and do what it can to aid the development of the university.
