Background:

Toshiba, a world leader in advanced technology, is a diversified manufacturer and marketer of advanced electronic and electrical products, spanning information & communications equipment and systems, Internet-based solutions and services, electronic components and materials, power systems, industrial and social infrastructure systems, and household appliances.

TOSHIBA wanted the materials on its annual Skills Competition to be translated from Japanese into Chinese, including various release information, introduction of the preparation work and contents of the competition. MTS helped its overseas partner to successfully pass the TOSHIBA project’s testing process and then handled the entire translation, proofreading and editing after the project was finally confirmed.

Challenges:

The translations needed to be prepared with the highest level of accuracy and consistency with a fluent and attractive style. An ideal translator must not only have a strong mechanical background and extensive knowledge, but also be very skilled in language expression.

Our Solutions:

  • We arranged for the best linguists with mechanical expertise to carry out the translations.
  • Two expert linguists were assigned to polish the translation as an extra step in addition to the normal TEP (translation, editing and proofreading).
  • Computer aided translation (CAT) tools were used throughout the whole process while a TM was created for the project, so that consistency was maintained and cost savings could be realized.
  • Documents were delivered on a rolling basis to ensure that we could set aside time for client’s comments, and so that those comments could be continuously applied to the translations.

Conclusion

This project lasted for a few months, with a total workload of over 100,000 characters. MTS exceeded expectations by completing the translations perfectly and ahead of schedule.
